Con il suo ultimo album The Defamation of Strickland Banks ha sorpreso con la musica soul, collezionando una serie di successi. Come attore si è esibito con successo accanto a Michael Caine nel film Harry Brown, è diventato anche regista ed ha inciso il musical hip hop Ill Manors.
