53° Ballo delle mucche (ritorno delle mucche dagli alpeggi)
A Bohinj, nonostante i grandi problemi con il maltempo, gli organizzatori del Ballo delle mucche riescono ogni anno a condurre in porto questa manifestazione che simbolizza il ritorno in pianura delle mandrie dopo il pascolo estivo in montagna.Le mucche scendono fino a Ukanc in riva al lago di Bohinj dove avviene la manifestazione. Vengono poi addobbate per il corteo al quale partecipano anche i pastori di alta montagna e i formaggiai, che portano con sé tutto il patrimonio di cui hanno bisogno quando, all’inizio dell’estate, lasciano la pianura e con la mandria e si incamminano verso i pascoli di montagna.
Gli organizzatori della manifestazione propongono eventi folcloristici, mettono in vendita oggetti dell’artigianato locale (come p.es. oggetti di vimini e di legno, tessuti fatti a mano), ed è naturalmente possibile degustare e acquistare il buonissimo formaggio dei pastori di montagna (planšarski sir), fatto di latte di mucca, oppure partecipare ai divertenti giochi che si basano sulle antiche usanze dei montanari come il tiro con la fionda o il lancio degli zoccoli o la gara con la sega a due mani.

My name is Carole Rozumek and I am working at ALDA, the European Association for Local Democracy, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to the promotion of good governance and citizen participation at the local level. I am contacting you as we are preparing a project in the frame of the Europe for Citizens program, Network of Towns, expiring next 1st March.
The project idea comes from the Italian town of Bressanvido (the lead applicant), which is situated in the region of Vicenza in Italy. Every year this town organizes a festival dedicated to traditional transhumance (cattle walking down their mountain pastures, without using motorized transport). Indeed, the town wishes to valorize and preserve this cultural and very ancient European tradition, which is disappearing quicker and quicker.
This project aims at raising awareness and increase the visibility of transhumant pastoralism in Europe and its traditions. The economic opportunities of this way of life, as well as its social potential (pet – therapy) and environmental-friendly aspects will be investigated.
We are looking for partners, which are involved in transhumance related activities or wish to participate in this project. Following a research on the internet, it came to our attention that your municipality does value transhumance, therefore we have joined the project outline to this email.
